New York, June 22 - William Shinker, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Gotham Books, announced on May 19th the acquisition of World Volume rights to Hill Harper's LETTERS TO A YOUNG BROTHER, a motivational book based on Harper's experience as a mentor to young men. The book will be published in hardcover by Gotham Books in the Spring of 2006 in time for Mother's Day, Father's Day, and graduations all over the country. Lauren Marino, Gotham Books' Executive Editor, acquired world rights from David Vigliano and Elisa Petrini of the David Vigliano Literary Agency. Uber-publicist, Marvet Britto, who through the Brand Imaging division of her public relations firm The Britto Agency, introduced Harper to Vigliano and sold Gotham on LETTERS TO A YOUNG BROTHER.

Hill Harper is a modern day Renaissance man; the star of CBS's mega hit CSI: NY, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brown University and earned graduate degrees in both law and public administration from Harvard. He is a volunteer for the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization in Los Angeles, and speaks regularly to high school and middle school students about the value of education and how to conceive of, and realize, a satisfying future. "Education has always been very important to me and my family," says Harper. "And I'm a big proponent of trying to get young kids to go to school and educate themselves, because the world offers a wealth of opportunities." Just recently, on Saturday June 18th, Harper spoke during the State of the African American Male Conference at New York University School of Law on African American males in New York City and Newark taking responsibility for today's youth.

Profoundly affected in his own youth by Rainer Maria Rilke's LETTERS TO A YOUNG POET, Harper was inspired to write a book that would have similar impact on today's young men. He has spoken to more than 10,000 students and found in them a deep yearning for solid, step-by-step guidance. In LETTERS TO A YOUNG BROTHER. he offers lessons and uplifting words that will encourage, empower, and provide alternative views of what it truly means to be a successful male.

"Lauren and I were very impressed by Hill's passion for helping young men in this country, and by the powerful pages that he has already written of LETTERS TO A YOUNG BROTHER," said Shinker. "He wants to work with us in innovative ways to reach the audience, and there is no book we are publishing that I am prouder of being associated with."

"Hill has the charisma and sense of mission to connect with young people and give them the kind of inspiring and concrete advice they are hungry for," Marino added. "I'm thrilled to be working with Hill to help him get his message out to as many people as possible."
