[Previous entry: "4th Annual Urban Mediamakers Film Festival in Atlanta"] [Next entry: "Dept of Justice to hold Ballot Access and Voting Integrity Symposium to focus on election fraud, voting rights"]

On August 21, 2005, the Hip Hop Caucus will launch a Hip-Hop Caucus Supreme Justice National Bus Tour, to bring awareness to the upcoming Supreme Court nomination as well as other key issues that currently affect the Hip Hop Community. The Hip-Hop Caucus Supreme Justice National Bus Tour will invite young people between the ages of 14 and 39 to participate in a series of public/media events, town hall meetings, rallies, urban radio remote broadcast sites (at malls, shopping centers and convention centers), concerts and other cultural activities that will highlight the importance of civic participation, and civic engagement.

The targeted audience will also be encouraged to contact their senate representatives to request that every precaution be taken prior to approving impending Supreme Court nominees. The literature developed for the Supreme Justice National Bus Tour will serve to educate the community on the nomination process and provide contact details for the senate representatives.

Understanding the dynamics involved, H2C has accepted the challenge of engaging communities of all cultures in an intergenerational dialogue. The Supreme Justice Tour will begin in Washington DC and travel through 27 States, 20 out of the 21 States where members of the Congressional Black Caucus reside, and 22 out of the 27 States will have key Senate Races in 2006. This tour will bring together the civil rights community, including warriors from that earlier struggle for justice, various hip-hop celebrities, local artists and community leaders and discuss ten major issues that affect the community today.
