"Dreamworks Pictures seeking musical talent in St. Louis, Chicago, and Detroit for Dreamgirls"

Los Angeles, CA - The producer of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Dreamgirls is bringing the legendary project to the big screen. "Dreamgirls," starring Jamie Foxx, Beyonce Knowles and Eddie Murphy, will be filming in Los Angeles in early 2006.
The film, directed by Oscar winner Bill Condon, is set in the early 1960s to the 1970s. It is the story of the amazing Dreams three African-American girl singers from the projects of Detroit who break their hearts on the path to stardom.
The casting directors, Debra Zane (who has cast films such as 'War of the Worlds', 'Catch Me if You Can', 'Seabiscuit', 'Oceans 11 & 12') and Jay Binder (who has cast such Broadway shows as 'Lost in Yonkers', 'The Lion King' and the upcoming revival of 'A Chorus Line') will be holding open auditions for African-American women. The details are as follows:
We are seeking: A plus-sized African-American actress/singer in her late teens -- mid 20s (NO OLDER!) to play the leading role of Effie White.
She should have a huge gospel belt voice with great power and range. All body types from a few extra pounds to full-figured are welcome. Typing may occur.
DATE: Saturday, August 27, 2005 (Call Backs will be Sunday, August 28th)
TIME: Check-in begins at 10 a.m. and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Check-in time cutoff is 1 p.m.

You will be singing a cappella; please prepare 8 bars of an up-tempo gospel, R&B, or pop theater song that shows voice and range. Please bring a picture and resume.
If you are called back on Sunday, you will be asked to perform a scene (which we will provide) and the song "And I Am Telling You I Am Not Going."
