Only the poor man feels it. While rich people play the blame game about what went wrong in New Orleans, only the poor are hungry, homeless and separated from their families!

At least, that’s the way it seems to me.

Everybody that was hit by the hurricane suffered. However, in a capitalist society, people with money can recover faster than those in our community that don’t have money, don’t have insurance coverage, don’t have government assistance and support and don't have a foreseeable future.

Senator Hillary Clinton has requested that a commission be formed that will investigate what happened with the late federal response to the Gulf Coast disaster area.

Sen. Clinton should be ashamed! All of the politicians, lobbyists and public officials that take time from assisting their fellow Americans to talk about commissions should be ashamed.

The people should always come first. The children should come first. The elderly should come first. The sick and disabled should come first!

The situation in New Orleans and in Mississippi is not a political issue. Hurricanes do not care which party members they hit. Hurricanes are Independent!

Yes, we want to know who did or didn’t do what in New Orleans but I’ll tell you what happened without costing you five or ten million dollars, everybody did something wrong! Everybody responded late and reacted late. Starting with the people of New Orleans and ending with the President, everyone could have responded and reacted differently and possible better.

For now, that’s OK. I can wait on an investigation but I can’t wait on saving the lives of Americans still in danger on the Gulf Coast! I can’t wait for the disaster victims to get food, shelter and health care.

Don’t let people who could care less about your well being use what is happening to African-Americans in New Orleans for some political purpose.

I don’t care if you bash Bush but now is not the time. I’ll probably be the first to bash a whole lot of people at the appropriate time. However, now is the time to help our brothers and sisters as much as we can.

You can donate to the charity of your choice but I contacted my friends in the Gulf region and did what I could for them. What was sent by me to New Orleans and other places was sent directly to someone. Sometimes you have to be careful and make sure your support goes where it was intended. If I can say, The Red Cross is the group best set up to assist people in times of disaster and about 90% of the money they collect actually goes to people in need.

Only the poor man feels it. News reports only talk about the poorest in New Orleans but what about the working poor who had a car and evacuated and returned home to find their homes looted and all of their prized possessions gone?

The rich and the political and the media can debate and discuss America’s greatest disaster but only the poor can feel it! (Get Lucius to tell the truth at your next event. Contact theganttreport@comcast.net)
