BET’s documentary, The Down Low Exposed, has many Black women asking: How can I tell if my man is on the down low?
Infidelity Expert Ruth Houston Has the Answer
As a public service to Black women who want specific guidelines on how to tell if their husbands or boyfriends are on the down low, infidelity expert Ruth Houston has compiled a 2-part tip sheet called the Down Low Dozen. Houston’s tip sheet describes a discreet 3-step way find out the answer to this all-important question.
Houston, the author of Is He Cheating on You? – 829 Telltale Signs and founder of www.InfidelityAdvice.com explains why she compiled the Down Low Dozen tip sheet.
“There’s so much misinformation out there that most Black women are unable to accurately assess whether or not a man is on the down low. This puts them at a major disadvantage when it comes to protecting themselves against heterosexually contracted HIV/AIDS.”
2 Common Down Low Myths Abound
According to Houston, there are 2 common myths circulating about how to detect the down low, that contribute to this problem.
Myth #1 - There are no signs when a man is on the down low.
Houston, who has spent 11 years researching and documenting signs of infidelity says, “There ARE telltale signs when man is on the down low. The down low is basically another form of infidelity – the only difference is that the Other Woman is actually another man. Since this is the case, many of the same signs of infidelity apply. Many of them are quite subtle and easy to overlook. Knowing what to look for is the key. In addition to the general signs of infidelity, there are also specific signs which indicate that his partner is probably another man.. In order for Black women to protect themselves against heterosexually-contracted HIV/AIDS, they need to know what these signs are.”
Myth #2 – You can tell if a man is on the down by his mannerisms or his outward appearance.
Says Houston, “ You CANNOT identify a “down low brother” by the way he walks, talks, dresses, or acts. They are not necessarily more effeminate than other men. Too many Black women are relying on this method, and many innocent Black men have been falsely accused. “
Setting the Record Straight
Houston says, “As a Black woman, and an infidelity expert/researcher, I feel I have a 2-fold obligation to set the record straight. Let’s look at the facts:”
• AIDS is now one of the top three causes of death for Black women aged 25-34
• 67% of black women with HIV contracted it from heterosexual sex.
“ We’re talking about a situation that’s a matter of life and death. My Down Low Dozen tip sheet gives Black Women accurate information they can use to help protect themselves against heterosexually-contracted HIV/AIDS.”
