HBCU Educators Hall of Fame Established
ORLANDO, FL - (October 27, 2006)- Legendary Gospel Singer Pastor Shirley Caesar Concert will be held at the Malone Memorial Church of God and Christ, 401 Ivey Lane, Orlando, FL on Friday night, November 17 at 8:00-11:00 pm. Ticket prices range from $35.00 - $45.00 (preferred seating)...Call 1-877-947-6877. The O’Jays performance will be held at the Linda Chapin Auditorium of the Orange County Convention Center located at 9800 International Drive in Orlando will be Saturday night, November 18 from 9pm to 12 midnight. Ticket price for the O'Jays is $45.00. Both Pastor Shirley Caesar and the O’Jays will receive HBCU Lifetime Achievement Awards at their concerts. Proceeds from both concerts will benefit college students in HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities).
The HBCU Educators Hall of Fame will be established during the O’Jays Concert on November 18.with the induction of the following charter members:
Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune - posthumously
Dr. George Washington Carver - posthumously
Dr. William Edward Burghardt Dubois - posthumously
Paul Griffin – humanitarian
Dr. Frederick S. Humphries - Florida A&M University and Tennessee State University past president
Dr. John H. Lucas – Shaw University
Dr. Charles D. Moody, Sr. – National Alliance of Black School Educators, Inc.
Dr. Trudie Kibbe Reed – Bethune - Cookman College president
Dr. Deloris Saunders – National Alliance of Black School Educators, Inc.
Dr. Booker T. Washington - posthumously
The HBCU Scholarship Fund is sponsored by the National HBCU Scholarship Foundation, Inc. (NHCBUSF) under the leadership of Dr. Florence Alexander, chair and president. NHBCUSF is a nonprofit 501(c)(3)organization whose mission is to help college students “stay in school”. The 2006 HBCU Scholarship Benefit will focus on the displaced college students who were transferred to one or more of the 105 HBCU institutions after the August 28 Katrina Hurricane. Many of the students were bussed to other college campuses with only the clothes they had on their backs. In many instances, entire buildings were flooded on the college campuses of Dillard University , Southern University, and/or Xavier University , all HBCUs where most of the students receiving HBCU scholarships last year were attending school. In its initial year in 2005, the National HBCU Scholarship Fund provided 73 scholarships ranging in amounts from $500 to $2,500 to deserving college students. Supporters of the HBCU Scholarship Fund include private business owners, corporations and concerned individuals. Contributions may be mailed to National HBCU Scholarship Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 915115 , Longwood , FL 32791 . The scholarship fundraising concerts are being held during the weekend of the football game between rivals Florida A&M University and Bethune-Cookman College that attracts more than 200,000 visitors to Orlando .
