Indianapolis Colts Coach Tony Dungy and Chicago Bears Coach Lovie Smith guaranteed that a Black pro football coach would lead his team to Super Bowl victory in Miami Florida in 2007.

Look for more NFL owners to jump on the bandwagon and hire more and more non-white coaches.

However, just like in real life, Blacks competing against whites for high profile positions not only have to be "as good" as their counterparts, they have to be better.

There is a lot of joy in the hood these days, but trust me it may be for a short time period.

The new National Football League is not like the old NFL where coaches like Paul Brown or Tom Landry semed to stick around for life. Today the NFL has a salary cap and good players on good teams often seek to find greener pastures and higher paying contracts.

There is a level of parity in the NFL. Almost any team's first team is about as good as any other team's.

That is why footbal game predictors never can forecast a game's outcome. If it were that easy to tell which teams will win games on Sundays, Las Vegas sports books and other gambling companies would go broke and betters would win every week.

That is why the victories in the NFL Championship week were great for the two Black head coaches.

If all teams have players that can run fast, catch well and tackle, the difference just might be the head coach.

Dungy and Smith are class guys. The admiration they are getting for being outstanding professional coaches could not have come for two better team leaders.

Hopefully, the love fest for Black coaches will spread to the college and high school ranks. There are very few Division I Black head coaches even though most D-I college football players are African-American. High level high school programs also lack minority coaches.

Congratulations to Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith! Enjoy the praise while you can. The winning won't last forever and the criticism will begin again for whoever loses the big game.
