The Gantt Report - I was talking with one of my friends recently about how scholarly studies indicate that most American newspapers seek to publish opinions by conservative writers.

Editorial pages are some of the least read sections of newspapers but editorials are a gauge of community perspectives.

If it were not for America’s and the world’s Black newspapers only the Klan, the skinheads and racial bigots would have a vehicle to express their decadent views.

What about so-called Black columnists like Leonard Pitts, Cynthia Tucker, DeWayne Wickham and others?

Well, their views are their views and I respect those writers and their views.

However, having worked at the media level on which they work, I know what it takes for them to remain America’s most distributed Negro writers.

The Miami Herald, The Atlanta Journal, The Washington Post and other such newspapers will not publish columnists that will tell the truth about those publications and tell the truth about inequality, injustice, exploitation and oppression in America’s poorest and Blackest communities.

White newspapers want Black writers that will write opinions acceptable to white readers. No Black writers can continue writing for white newspapers if they write about racism, Zionism, imperialism, colonialism or any misdeed whatsoever by non-Black humans.

In fact, Black writers will be celebrated and admired more by whites the more they chastise, criticize and ostracize other Black people.

Let me explain another thing. To the most acceptable Black opinion writers, white thought is the right thought!

White folks love to say this or that Black person “uses the race card”. If that’s not the pot calling the kettle a derogatory term what is?

Everything about white society and white media has racial implications. If writers were just writers why are there no newsrooms with a majority of reporters and writers of color? If people are people, equal and all that, why are jails full of your sisters and brothers? Why are Black borrowers only allowed sub-prime mortgage loans? Why are there fewer and fewer Black owned radio and TV stations?

As my friend told me in our conversation, someone needs to call Tom Joyner and tell him hidden racism is not hidden any more.

And, Uncle Tom and Aunt Jemima writing for the man’s newspapers should write columns about how revolutionary Black writers paved the way for them to get their token jobs by standing up and demanding that more Blacks be hired at white media companies.

That type of column will never be written because the media beast, so to speak, does not want the Black masses to read the truth in 2007 much like they way they didn’t want us to read anything during Slavery Days.

You shouldn’t be surprised one bit how much Negro columnists hate Vick, Bonds, Sharpton and you too! They hate the Black people that their bosses want them to hate!
In all seriousness, we need the African Americans that write for white owned newspapers but we need columns like The Gantt Report too.
