"The Race Deck, Not Card - Commentary by Lucius Gantt"

The Gantt Report - Right before the 2008 Presidential Primary in West Virginia, candidate Hillary Clinton proclaimed that she was the candidate for white voters, or something to that effect.

Well, it sounded like Clinton was playing the race card but, in reality, West Virginia is a state with a racist deck!

According to polls, 70% of all of the people questioned after voting in West Virginia said that race was a consideration when they decided whom to vote for. Fifty percent of those exit polled said that they felt that Barack Obama and Rev. Jeremiah Wright shared the same views.

Now, Hillary Clinton doesn’t have to tell you, I’ll tell you that there are millions of voters and millions of people that have a color confrontation conflict. Some people would rather die than to put race aside and base their votes on which candidates can best address the issues of importance.

Obama knew early on that he would not win in West Virginia. He tried to win though and even sent paid and volunteer campaign workers to canvass the state’s political districts and neighborhoods.

However, Barack’s West Virginia vote efforts were quickly curtailed. Why? I wasn’t there but reports indicate Obama campaign workers were heckled, called racial slurs and one report said some Obama supporters were spat at when they tried to canvass door-to-door.

No, the West Virginia results shouldn’t surprise you but what is more disrespectful and somewhat hurtful to African Americans is the prevalent suggestion that Barack Obama can’t win a presidential election without “winning” the white vote.

Shame on the devil. And, shame on Hillary Clinton supporters that are spreading that nonsensical train of thought.

Those that claim to be political professionals like myself know two things, Obama didn’t lose West Virginia in May of 2008, Barack lost West Virginia 400 years ago as “Hardball” cable TV host Chris Matthews has explained so often and so well.

Plus, former President Bill Clinton himself never, ever got the majority of white votes cast in a nationwide election. He and his wife know very well that democrat Bill Clinton only won his Presidential race because he got 90% of the votes from Black people whenever he won.

Don’t be fooled by the political trickery. The winner of the 2008 Democratic Presidential Nomination will be the candidate with the most votes and the most delegates regardless of their race, creed, color or ethnic background.

Barack Obama got 27% of the vote in West Virginia. I wonder what percentage of votes Hillary Clinton would get if a Presidential Primary were contested in Washington, D.C.?
