"Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Day Commmittee Announces Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration January 16-18, 2010"

Washington, DC - The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Day Committee, Inc. will hold its Annual Dr. King Celebration in Washington, DC on January 16-18, 2010. This year’s theme, “At the Crossroads of Change: Owning Our Role in Fulfilling The Dream”. The celebration will honor the life, dream and vision of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The 3 day celebration will feature a Gospel Musical Concert, Youth Symposium, Interfaith “Prayer, Peace, & Praise” Service, MLK March to a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the African-American Civil War Memorial (Honoring the twenty five African American soldiers and sailors who were awarded the medal of honor for bravery and heroism during the Civil War) followed by the Annual Celebrity Celebration Performance at the Historic Lincoln Theatre.

Local and national artists are also invited to share in the celebration, noted artists such as Stevie Wonder, The Winans, Kenny Latimore, Tony Terry, Melba Moore, Kym Whitley, Omarosa, Michael Colyar, Doug E. Fresh, Tony Woods, Chris Thomas and many others have participated in previous celebrations. Award winning recording artists will perform during the star studded celebration. This year the Dream Keeper's Awards will be presented for outstanding service in the areas of education, health care, housing advocacy and community service. For more than 19 years the committee has provided a free weekend of events and activities for thousands of residents from the metropolitan area to attend.
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration Day Committee, Inc. is a nonprofit organization established in 1989, to educate and promote the National Birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The committee also assists in providing scholarships to high school graduates. Students attend and participate in programs that provide them with leadership development and many other positive and productive programs that help enhance their lives.
