We are thinking critically. We will not let this moment degenerate into a superficial conversation about race and gender. We must educate America about what it means to live at the intersection that informs our reality.
Most of us are single. Many of us have children and some of us care for our parents. We also work. We sometimes take care of men who are economically crippled for any number of reasons and a few of us have husbands who are good providers. Our dreams and aspirations are not very different from other women. We desire healthy relationships, safe communities, and we are willing to work to improve our quality of life. We bear the brunt of every ill-conceived governmental policy and still we are students, small business owners, and home owners. According to Lake Research Partners, single Black women attend church far more often than all other unmarried women. We are women of faith.
