The 100 Black Men of America, Inc. mentors hundreds of thousands of youth all over the world annually. These young people are productive, loving, law abiding youth from diverse backgrounds. Many of the 100 members have raised productive, loving, law abiding children of their own. As an organization, we find it reprehensive that anyone would recommend the genocide of a people as a solution to crime in America. But, that is exactly what William Bennett suggested on his radio show Bill Bennett's Morning in America, which airs on the Salem Radio Network.

It is clear to any parent, mentor, teacher or citizen that cares about youth that Bennett does not value the lives of our children. Comments that the reduction of the crime rate in this country would be achieved by aborting every black baby are inflammatory, racist, divisive and inhumane. The number of the white youth vs. black youth in the US population creates a statistical impossibility that the majority of crimes are the result of black youth. Does the fact that youth crimes in this country are also committed by white children mean we should call for the abortion of all children? Abortion is not the answer to our nation's crime rate. Abortion is in direct opposition to his party and to President Bush's pro life position, and is out of alignment with the traditional values that Bennett stresses in his own publication The Book of Virtues - - unless the right to life is limited to only those Bennett selects.

If a man who has held the position of Secretary of Education, and is touted as one of America's leading intellectual voices on social and cultural issues, can be allowed to make such outlandish comments, it is clear that the undercurrent of classism, racism and genocide exists in the core being of some citizens. Consequently, it eventually rears its ugly head. In combating racism that leads to disparities in the communities we serve, it has always been our history, mission and purpose to shape the minds of great young people into citizens that positively contribute to the fabric of this country and the world. Mentoring the 100 Way and schools such as the 100 Black Men's Eagle Academy For Young Boys have proven to be models that work. The 100 refuses to allow historical events to be repeated, therefore, 100 Black Men of America, Inc. requests the following:

· A public apology to all youth of color in this country from Mr. Bennett and Salem Radio Network officials

· A public apology to all parents of black babies that Bennett proposed be aborted from Mr. Bennett and Salem Radio Network officials

· The immediate removal of William J. Bennett's national radio program from Salem Radio Network's programming

· All organizations that support youth must respond to these grievous comments as follows:
