The Gantt Report - Clinton, McCain and Obama are lying about health care! I know you don’t like for me to be honest about some things but it is true!
One of the biggest issues of the 2008 Presidential Primaries is affordable health care. Every candidate left in the race says they have a good health plan but Hillary Clinton is claiming to have the best proposal of all the candidates seeking to become President of the United States.
“Universal Health Care” sounds good. However, if something sounds too good to be true, trust me, it is!
First of all, if any candidate or any President says they have a plan to provide health coverage to all Americans, they ought to have a plan to pay for such coverage. To institute a universal health plan in America, such a plan would have to be financed by the biggest tax increase in U.S. tax history!
Why? Because health costs have become astronomical! Doctors get most blame for high health care costs but doctor’s fees only make up about nine percent of health care costs. Prescription drugs, hospitals, nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities cost just as much or much more than payments to physicians.
Physician insurance costs are also important in determining why it costs so much to be sick. If health care providers are sued by some patients, for good or bad reasons, the costs of that doctor’s malpractice insurance coverage are oftentimes passed on to all patients.
To me, the best health care plan for Americans would be an incentive plan. With an incentive plan, it would benefit Americans to take better care of their selves.
Why should healthy people pay higher taxes to pay for health care costs of their family members, friends, and neighbors that take illegal drugs, drink alcohol, smoke tobacco, eat unhealthy foods and so forth? People that enjoy abusing their bodies would enjoy that abuse more if they knew that other citizens would have to pay for their health care.
Perhaps, people that eat right, exercise and live healthy lives could get tax breaks if they assisted in the prevention of serious or catastrophic illnesses or injuries. Just raise taxes for everyone but give tax credits or refunds to people that took better care of their health.
Yes, someone has to pay for the elaborate health schemes of political candidates. People have to pay for health care all over the world. Health care may look cheap in Canada, Cuba or in other countries but the people in those countries are paying more money via higher taxes or having health care costs covered by government subsidies.
Your favorite candidate for President is lying through his or her teeth! Health care costs are increasing because people are living much longer. There are more and better pharmaceuticals, more and better physical therapists, better diagnostic equipment and so on.
The candidates will say anything to get elected but if our life spans increase, our health care costs will increase also.
The best health plans are our own. Eat more soups and salads and less burgers and fries. Walk more often instead of riding everywhere. Seek more natural cures and depend less on expensive drugs that don’t cure anything.
Look at your favorite candidate for President of the United States a little closer. If they will lie about health care plans to get your votes, maybe they will lie about everything else!
Vote your conscious but trust yourself and take care of your own body as much as possible! (Gantt’s new book “Beast Too: Dead Man Writing” is coming soon. Contact Lucius at www.allworldconsultants.net)
